Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks Review

Right now I'm halfway through Nicholas Sparks book Safe Haven and let me tell you it is as good as his other ones.. I am a huge fan of his in general.. you could catch me in high school sitting on a bench in front of my favorite donut place waiting for my mother to pick me up and one of his books in hand crying my eyes out as I read.

Review of Cryer's Cross by Lisa McMann

Last night I picked up Cryer's Cross by Lisa McMann because it was something I grabbed to read when my boyfriend reads at night when Im at his place. I have finished 75% of it and will finish the rest of it tonight..

Synopsis:

The small town of Cryer’s Cross is rocked by tragedy when an unassuming freshman disappears without a trace. Kendall Fletcher wasn’t that friendly with the missing girl, but the angst wreaks havoc on her OCD-addled brain.

When a second student goes missing—someone close to Kendall’s heart—the community is in an uproar. Caught in a downward spiral of fear and anxiety, Kendall’s not sure she can hold it together. When she starts hearing the voices of the missing, calling out to her and pleading for help, she fears she’s losing her grip on reality. But when she finds messages scratched in a desk at school—messages that could only be from the missing student who used to sit there—Kendall decides that crazy or not, she’d never forgive herself if she didn’t act on her suspicions.

Something’s not right in Cryer’s Cross—and Kendall’s about to find out just how far the townspeople will go to keep their secrets buried. (from the inside cover)

My Review:
I liked the characters, the main character at times was believable and interesting to read. Her interactions with other characters helped build her background and gave life to other characters. I enjoyed the character development between Kendall and Jacian and the way they learn a lot from each other. I like the description of the town and the towns people like its a real tiny town.
The last 50 pages of the book is where the story finally takes a turn for what you've been waiting for. It wraps up nice and quickly.
I enjoyed reading the book it was a quick read and had a nice story and a little bit of a twist and paranormal to it to make you interested.
3.5/5 I'd say in this kittens opinion. :)

Festival of Books Followup

I was rather sad about the Festival of Books this year.. I walked around most of the Festival and didnt really see any booths for paranormal romance, teen paranormal it was few and far between other then big book sellers or small book shops that might have had a book or two.. I found mostly religious booths and memoir booths. I left with quite a few memoirs that look interesting to me signed by the authors.. but nothing in my reading genre other then a bookmark for a sci fi book.

I did win a set of tickets to see a play at the Kirk Douglas Theatre in LA.. and lots of people loved my cat outfit and I got lots of walking in.. so it wasnt a waste of a day, but certainly my excitement for the show was not anywhere near what it ended up being.

I also won something from Focus Features.. but I got a text from them as I drove up into my Nans's driveway to have dinner with her so I wasnt going to go all the way back and park, dont even think I could have made it back in the 15 minutes til it closed to get it.. so I was a little bummed about that..

But all in all underwhelming but a nice day because I got to talk to writers, look at books, and see family.

Review of Songs of Love and Death

Songs of Love and Death editted by George R R Martin and Gardner Dozors. with stories from Neil Gaiman, Diana Garbaldon, Jum Butcher, Marjorie M. Lui, Jacqueline Carey, Carrie Vaughn and many more.

Im reading this short story compilation right now.. and am loving it.. A lot of the stories are by authors that I know well and some by author's don't know anything about.

I will tell you it's very enjoyable to read. I love short story comp's because I can read a story in between other things I'm doing and not lose anything from the story or get sucked into 2 hours of reading when I should be doing other stuff.

So far :
Love Hurts by Jim Butcher - our lovable Harry in a short story about love and lust.. cute story.. enjoyable to read and the characters are likable, never having read the Dresden Files ( I want too, its on my list) It definitely made me want to pick up the series.. I will soon for sure 4/5 stars

The Marrying Maid by Jo Beverly - Kinda drawn out in some parts.. not really my cup of tea.. but still well written and a quick read.. interesting twist on a old tale.. which is what I enjoyed most about it. 3/5 stars

Rooftops by Carrie Vaughn - Enjoyable to read interesting.. want to look into her as an author now because I like her superhero concept.. but the end wrapped up kinda funny.. but other then that was engaging and the character believable and a bit likable ( im a bit biased because Im a huge theatre person and the story is about a playwright's opening night). 3.5/5 stars

Hurt Me by M. L. N. Hanover - I liked the concept of this story and I loved the ending.. I thought it but wasn't certain that was where the writer was going til the end. I liked the character and the neighbors insight into the situation. Very interesting and engaging. 4.2/5 stars

Demon Lover by Cecelia Holland - The story is interesting and has a twist thats enjoyable. It's cool that the characters each have a background to them. I liked the fantasy part of the story.. and the way the people in the world were frightened.. I also liked the message it ended with. 3.7/5 stars
